Garden gnomes are very popular as yard decorations throughout the world, and especially in Canada. The idea of gnomes was created back in the 16th century and means “earth-dweller.” Due to ancient medieval myths and modern day stories and fairy tales (where gnomes are depicted as cute and friendly little elves), they have evolved into a fanciful garden décor. Garden gnomes are also thought to be a part of the spirit world and protectors of underground treasures. Although they have been popular as lawn ornaments since the 19th century, the trend took off after World War II. As new weather resistant materials were developed (and they became more popular in literature) these garden ornaments that have been created have more character and charm.
At Mondus, our unique garden gnomes come in all shapes and sizes and weather resistant materials. Be sure to check them out. You’ll love them!

Tips for your garden accessories:
Ceramic garden accessories such as pots, statues and plaques should be brought inside for the winter as they will crack.
Metal and cast iron garden accessories such as pots, statues and plaques may rust when outside or expose to water. We recommend that you bring them inside the winter. To slow down the process, you can protect these garden accessories with a clear coat of Varathane. You can also buy Tremclad Clear (in a spray can). TREMCLAD Rust Paint provides superior rust inhibition, and is specially formulated to penetrate rust and bind to metal.
Resin garden accessories such as plaques and statues should be brought inside for the winter as they will crack. These garden accessories can be left outside only if they have fibreglass in them.
Hand blown glass garden accessories such as glass balls can be left outside all year long but the change of temperature has to be gradual.
Concrete garden accessories and concrete garden statues: Sealing your statuary or garden ornament with a good quality concrete sealer will preserve the finish and stall the aging process, if desired. In cold climates, all outdoor statuary must be sealed. Sealing will protect the surface of the concrete from freezing and flaking, but will not keep a bowl or pond from cracking when frozen. ANY ITEM THAT HOLDS WATER MUST BE PROTECTED FROM FREEZING. Bowls and ponds can be inverted or covered and fountain pumps removed.
All these garden accessories can also be brought indoors during the cold season to use as accent pieces especially during the Holiday Season. For example, the small garden accessories such as pots and birdbaths can make beautiful centre pieces on a dining table with a candle in them or they can be filled with fruits.
